2026 Career Connections Summer Camp Spotlight Series: Film Production

Our Career Connections Summer Camp Spotlight Series continues as we showcase the exciting programs introducing students to future career pathways through hands-on learning.
Today's Spotlight: Film Production
What does it take to bring a story from an idea to the screen? Students in the Career Connections Film Production summer camp discovered the answer as they explored the creative process behind filmmaking.
Led by instructor Terry Cuddy, campers stepped into the world of film production by learning industry practices and techniques used to create a short film from start to finish. Throughout the week, students collaborated to write scripts, develop storyboards, film scenes, edit footage, and publish their completed projects to share with friends and family.
Every camper had the opportunity to experience multiple production roles, including actor, director, boom operator, slate operator, and director. By rotating responsibilities, students gained a greater appreciation for the teamwork, creativity, communication, and technical skills required to produce a successful film.
The Film Production summer camp introduces students to concepts found in the Graphic Design & New Media program at Cayuga Onondaga BOCES Career & Technical Education (CTE). Students in the program develop skills in graphic design, digital photography, illustration, video production, animation, web design, marketing, and digital media while building professional portfolios and gaining experience with industry standard software and equipment.
Career Connections is more than just a summer camp. It is an opportunity for students to explore future careers through engaging, real world experiences. For students entering their junior or senior year of high school, the Graphic Design & New Media program provides the opportunity to continue developing creative and technical skills while preparing for college or careers in visual communications, media production, marketing, and digital design.
