Today's Spotlight: Auto Repair
Have you ever wondered what it takes to keep today's vehicles running safely and efficiently? Students in the Career Connections Auto Repair summer camp are getting a firsthand look through hands-on learning and real-world experiences.
This summer experience introduces students to skills that align with the Exploration in Construction and Mechanical Trades program at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES Career & Technical Education (CTE). Throughout the week, campers are learning industry safety standards, the proper use of automotive equipment, hydraulic systems, vehicle lifts, and professional shop practices while building confidence in a safe, supervised environment.
One of this week's highlights has been learning the fundamentals of automotive electrical systems. Students explored wiring safety, learned the purpose of the three primary electrical wires, and gained hands-on experience working with automotive wiring. These foundational skills help students understand how electrical systems operate while reinforcing the importance of safety and precision in today's skilled trades.
Career Connections is more than just a summer camp—it's an opportunity for students to discover career interests while developing practical, hands-on skills. For students entering their junior or senior year of high school, this experience can be the first step toward continuing their education through the Exploration in Construction and Mechanical Trades program at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES.
The Exploration in Construction and Mechanical Trades program provides students with a strong foundation in the skilled trades by introducing them to a variety of career pathways, including automotive technology, electrical systems, welding, construction, and mechanical trades. Through hands-on instruction, industry-standard equipment, and work-based learning opportunities, students develop the technical knowledge and employability skills needed for success in high-demand careers.
