Today's Spotlight: Heavy Equipment Operation
Have you ever dreamed of operating an excavator, backhoe, or bulldozer? Students in our Heavy Equipment Operation program are getting the chance to do just that!
Led by instructor Cale Jirinec, campers are learning the fundamentals of heavy equipment operation through hands-on experiences that emphasize safety, precision, and teamwork. After receiving comprehensive safety instruction, students estimate, measure, and complete an earthmoving project while gaining experience operating heavy equipment and learning the basic principles behind the machines.
This immersive experience allows students to build confidence, develop valuable technical skills, and discover what it takes to work in today's construction industry.
Career Connections is more than just a summer camp—it's an opportunity for students to explore future careers while developing practical, hands-on skills. For students entering their junior or senior year of high school, this experience can be the first step toward continuing their education through the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES Career & Technical Education (CTE) Program.
The Heavy Equipment Repair & Operation program at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES prepares students for careers in the construction and heavy equipment industries through advanced training in equipment operation, maintenance, site preparation, safety practices, and work-based learning opportunities.
Interested in learning more? Students entering their junior or senior year of high school can explore the many Career & Technical Education programs available through Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES by visiting HERO!
