Therapeutic Program Staff Member Selected for Cayuga Museum Exhibition

Artwork created by Ali´ce Loran, a teacher assistant in the Therapeutic Program on the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES campus, has been selected for display in the Community Canvas exhibition at the Cayuga Museum of History & Art.
The exhibition runs from Feb. 4 through March 14 and highlights nine emerging artists from Cayuga County between the ages of 18 and 30. Designed to open the museum’s 2026 exhibition season, Community Canvas showcases a wide range of artistic styles and subjects, offering visitors a glimpse into the region’s local artistic community.
Loran submitted her work alongside pieces from a variety of regional artists. Her featured series, Backyard Birds, reflects a personal journey of combining her lifelong passion for art with a deep appreciation for birds. Using mixed media techniques that include diluted ink, gouache and acrylic, Loran’s work focuses on capturing the color, movement and individuality of birds while exploring her own artistic voice.
“I was put on this Earth for a purpose and that purpose is to paint birds,” Loran shared in her artist statement, noting that the series was inspired by a college art class prompt that ultimately helped her discover her signature style.
A public reception was held Friday, Feb. 6, to celebrate the opening of the exhibition. The event provided an opportunity for community members to view the artwork, meet participating artists and recognize the creative accomplishments represented in the show.
“This was a wonderful event and a meaningful reflection of Ali´ce’s passion for learning, growth and creativity,” said Jennifer Singer, director of special education.
Loran’s selection reflects her artistic talent and dedication to creative expression beyond the classroom. Her work will remain on display at the Cayuga Museum of History & Art through March 14.
