• Commercial Driving

    The Commercial Driving Program is designed to provide adults in our community an opportunity to qualify for a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License. The program is ongoing and includes theory instruction and individual driving experience.


    Customizable Programs

    • Transitioning from CDL-A to CDL-B
    • CDL-A Refresher
    • CDL-B Refresher
    • Must start with 2 hour evaluation with instructor to determine number of necessary hours. Programs available include: 30 hours; 40 hours; 50 hours; and 70 hours.

    Flexible Class Schedule

    • On-going enrollment (new students begin each month)
    • Times are determined by instructor and students (2-3 hour sessions)
    • Days, evenings, and weekends available


    Program Options/Costs as of July 1, 2020:
    CDL-A for up to 90 hours:         $4,500
    CDL-B for up to 60 hours:         $3,000
    Refresher for CDL-B or CDL-A: 20 hours: $1,000
    2 Hour Evaluation for $200 required for below options:
    Transition from CDL-B to CDL-A:   

    40-90 hours: $2,000-$4,500

    Farm Experienced Driver needing CDL: 

    30-90 hours:  $1,500-$4,500

    Additional Cost Information:  If you require additional driving time beyond the allowed hours, time can be scheduled at the rate of $100 per hour,
    or in packages of 10 hours for $500.  Permit, road test and license fees are additional expenses with NYS DMV.
    These are package deals.   If a student does not complete a program and would like a refund, the cost will be calculated at $100 per hour for the
    number of hours completed by the student.

    Program Requirements

    • Class A - 21 years or older
    • Class B - 18 years or older
    • Possess valid New York State license
    • Possess CDL Class A or B learner's permit obtained at NYS Department of Motor Vehicles with the following endorsements:
      • Class A: General Knowledge, Air Brake, and Combination
      • Class B: General Knowledge and Air Brake
    • Passed D.O.T. physical
    • Transition for CDL - B to CDL - A: Students must have current CDL - Class B License with driving experience and CDL Class A learner's permit
    • Refresher for CDL-B or CDL-A:  Student must have current CDL License
    • Successful students should possess the following:
      • good driving history
      • good physical condition
      • good vision/depth perception

    How to Get Started?

    1. Call The Center for Learning to obtain both the Intake Form and the Student Survey or by going to the resources section
    2. Return completed Intake Form and Student Survey
    3. Provide a copy of your learner's permit
