AHERA

  • The Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES, in accordance with Section 763.93 of the Federal Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA), submitted Asbestos Management Plans to the New York State Education Department in 1988. Updated and reviewed annually, these plans contain reports of the accredited asbestos inspectors and the reports of the accredited laboratories that analyzed the inspection samples that were taken. The Management Plans also describe:

    • Places in each school building where asbestos was identified
    • Documentation verifying that the Regional Education Center and Center for Learning facilities were designed and constructed using non-asbestos building materials
    • Response actions taken to date, including abatement of asbestos in boiler rooms, corridors, classrooms, crawl spaces and storage areas.

Copies of the Management Plans are available in the main office of each building. The Plans may be reviewed during regular business hours (8:30 AM to 3:30 PM) daily, Monday through Friday. Any questions or requests for additional information pertaining to the Asbestos Management Plans should be directed to: Mr. Jack Mekeel, Safety Officer, Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES 1879 West Genesee Street Road Auburn, NY 13021 (315) 255-7683
