Students in the Graphic Design & New Media program at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES are starting the promotion of their public service announcement (PSA) ad campaign, “Don’t Wait, Vaccinate!”
The project was formed in partnership with the City of Auburn and Cayuga County to persuade the most vulnerable and underserved populations in the community to get the COVID-19 vaccine. For the project, students have created both videos and posters to help promote their message.
“This was a valuable project for my students because they are using their creative skills to make work in the public interest,” said program instructor Terry Cuddy.
Student Anthony Shove, of Auburn High School, said he believes the program’s efforts will persuade at least one person to get vaccinated, which would make the whole project worthwhile.
The ads include community leaders throughout Cayuga County advocating their support for the vaccine. In one of the PSAs Jack Hardy, City of Auburn Civil Service Chairman said, “I can’t wait to get back to live entertainment at outdoor and indoor music venues.” The “Don’t Wait, Vaccinate!” ads can be seen on the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES, the City of Auburn, and Cayuga County Health Department’s websites. The PSAs will also be featured on social media, as well as rotated on the local Spectrum and Verizon FiOS public access channels.
