Day Care Children Receive Halloween Gifts at SkillsUSA Trick-Or-Treating Event

The Halloween spirit was in the air at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES on Tuesday, October 29th, as children in the day care program paraded through Career and Technical Education (CTE) classrooms. Children and staff alike were full of smiles at the trick-or-treating event, organized by SkillsUSA students.

Students and staff distributed gifts and treats to the children as they walked through the hallways with their Halloween bags. The children received many different items, from Halloween-themed stickers to specialized gifts, at each CTE program. Highlights included scrunchies from Cosmetology, hard hat buckets from Heavy Equipment Repair and Operation, and coloring books from Emerging Careers in Commerce, among many others.

“I hope the kids had a bunch of fun,” said Emme Weed, SkillsUSA reporter. “Halloween is so much fun when you’re that age, and I think it was just a good opportunity for them to get out of their classroom and enjoy a really fun activity.”

This was the first time SkillsUSA students coordinated a trick-or-treating event. The idea was initially proposed at a SkillsUSA meeting, and students and advisors worked together to inform each CTE program of the logistics. They hope it’s the start of a new Halloween tradition at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES.

SkillsUSA is a national organization that empowers students to become skilled professionals, career-ready leaders and responsible community members. The Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES SkillsUSA chapter is advised by Todd Marcellus and Valerie Short.
