After more than 20 years served at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES, Career and Technical Education Teacher Tammy Jedra is still as passionate as ever about supporting her students.

Jedra first started working for BOCES in 1999 as a GED Instructor at the Center for Learning. She then transitioned over to Special Education, including 12 years at Auburn High School, five years in the Weedsport Central School District, and five years at Skaneateles Central School District.

Just this past year, Jedra transitioned to a role supporting students in the Career and Technical Education programs, which she said has provided her with a new perspective on how students operate.

“I love being able to see students in different programs. I’m not just in one program. I like watching them in a non-traditional classroom. They’re really engaged and are getting those hands-on learning experiences,” she said. "I'm used to being in a traditional classroom setting, so it's nice to see the flip side of that."

When asked what advice she would provide to a new BOCES staff member, Jedra said the key is to simply listen.

“Just listen to veteran teachers and take their advice. I think it’s important to observe. A lot of learning can be done by just listening,” she said.

Outside of work, Jedra enjoys being outdoors (including hiking and paddleboarding), and spending time with family and friends.
