In the halls of the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES Compass Program, a new voice has joined the team of educators. David Moore, the new Compass Program English teacher, began working at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES last September.
Moore came to the Compass Program as a recent graduate of SUNY Oswego where he earned a master’s degree in education and a bachelor’s degree in English.
By design, the Compass program has smaller class sizes than traditional class settings, and that is one of the things that Moore finds appealing about his new position. Smaller class sizes allow for staff to really get to know a student’s individual personality. For David, the smaller class sizes and collaborative camaraderie of the BOCES Compass program are a good fit.
“The size of the program allows us to develop really robust relationships with the students,” Moore said.
As he gets to know his students better, Moore tries to incorporate his student’s interest and humor into the curriculum, helping to ignite their interest in the content they are learning.
Outside the classroom, Moore is a fitness enthusiast. He spends time in the gym working out and lifting weights. He is also a poet – writing and reading poetry to express himself.
