Now Hiring: Applied Electrical Technology Teacher

The Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES is accepting applications for an Applied Electrical Technology Teacher in the Career and Technical Education (CTE) program.

This position requires the applicant to have in-depth, comprehensive knowledge of the installation, maintenance, identification and repair/replacement of electrical wiring and related electrical equipment in commercial and/or residential buildings. The successful candidate must possess or be eligible for NYS Certification as a Career and Technical Teacher in Electrical 7-12.

The program is currently taught by Ray Ludemann, who will be retiring at the end of the school year. Ludemann, who has taught the program for nearly 20 years, said the greatest part of the job is watching students transform into capable electricians.

“I enjoy watching the students go from not having a clue at all – to really taking off. Each year I have had some motivated students that have kept me busy and always ask me what is next,” he said.

Ludemann offered some parting advice for current and future instructors: “Enjoy your trade and enjoy sharing it with the next generation of workers. When you do, the program will be your own, you will enjoy doing it, and students will find it interesting.”

The Career & Technical Education (CTE) program at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES provides students with the academic and technical skills, knowledge, and training necessary to succeed in future careers. The Applied Electrical Technology Program allows students to learn in work settings on campus and at off-campus construction and restoration sites.

The ideal candidate will help students develop job readiness skills relative to the applied electrical occupations, including strong work ethic and employability, theory, and technical skills.
