Good afternoon,
I hope all is well with you and yours!
I want to offer you a synopsis of what I believe to be true at this time. This past Sunday afternoon, Governor Hochul ended the universal mask mandate for schools in New York State effective Wednesday, March 2, 2022. Therefore, the wearing of masks will be optional at the BOCES and at BOCES related functions beginning today. We do encourage, however, anyone with ongoing health concerns or those who simply would like to wear a mask as a precaution to continue to do so.
The lifting of the mask mandate will not change the daily practices concerning maintaining a safe environment for all people. For example, those infected with COVID-19 will be required to isolate for 10 days. The practice of returning to work days 6-10 while wearing a well-fitting mask will continue. The continuation of daily sanitization will occur. In addition, isolation or quarantining/test-to-stay protocols for students and staff who test positive for COVID-19, are exposed to a COVID-19 positive individual, or who exhibit COVID-like symptoms will also continue. We continue to encourage everyone to practice good personal health and hygiene practices: i.e. cover your nose and mouth when sneezing or coughing; wash your with hands with soap frequently, etc. Should you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to your supervisor.
The resilience of our staff/students, the dedication of our employees and the unwavering support of our families and community must be praised. Thank you for pulling on the rope!
As we turn a corner towards normalcy, the Board of Education and I once again thank you for your patience during these challenging times.
All the best,
Brian Hartwell
District Superintendent
