Community Based Vocational Experience Program

The Community Based Vocational Experience Program provides students with moderate and severe disabilities education in career development and occupational studies. This program provides students with opportunities to learn the foundation skills and competencies essential for success in the workplace. This program assists in the facilitation of vocational assessments and transition planning.

The scope of services provided includes the following:

                   
  • Develop and analyze vocational training sites in community environments.
  • Provide systematic instruction to students in classrooms and on job sites.
  • Collect and analyze data and maintain files for each student.
  • Develop modifications and adaptations for students on job sites.
  • Train teachers and teacher aides on site and in classrooms.
  • Provide students with a balanced curriculum consisting of academic and functional objectives that are consistent with the New York State Learning Standards.
  • Develop vocational assessments and transition plans.
  • Disseminate information regarding community agencies.
  • Coordinate with student, parent, teacher and community agencies for adult services.
  • Assist students/families with scheduling visitations, transporting, and attending meetings with community service agencies.
  • Assist student/family/teacher in planning and carrying out final transition to desired post school activity (employment, day treatment or day/residential habilitation).
  • Offer assistance with applications for summer employment.
