Rhonda Zajac
Instructional Specialist
Rhonda Zajac started her career in education at a private preschool in Syracuse teaching pre-kindergarten and first grade. From there, she spent the next thirteen years serving in the Syracuse City School District. She spent several years teaching sixth and seventh grades before becoming Curriculum Coordinator at the middle school level. In that capacity, she developed a passion for the art of instruction and working with teachers at improving their craft. She spent the next six years of her career as a Reading Specialist working with teachers at all levels researching best practices, providing professional development, and supporting teachers at the classroom level. It was this work that led her to pursue the position of Instructional Specialist here at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES in 2007.
Much of Rhonda’s experience focuses on the teaching of reading and writing at all grade levels. She spent several years as a Scoring Leader in Syracuse for the NYS ELA Assessments at all levels. She is well-versed in the research at the primary/elementary levels due to her experience with Reading First and also at the middle/secondary levels due to her own interest in adolescent learning and literacy in the content areas.
Rhonda received her B.A. in English from William Smith College in Geneva, her M.S. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in middle school from SUNY Oswego, and her CAS in Educational Administration from Syracuse University.
In her work with the component districts, Rhonda is committed to supporting teachers in their ongoing quest for the most effective instruction for students, specifically in the areas of effective lesson design, integration of literacy skills, and student engagement.
