Plant, Animal, and Life Sciences

The Plant, Animal, and Life Sciences Program is a stimulating and challenging option for employment bound or college bound high school students. Not sure what you want to do...just know you like working with plans and animals, and being outside...we’ll help you figure it out at the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES.

PALS

Care and handling of animals

  • Learn how to properly care for small & large animals
  • Learn proper handling & restraint of animals
  • Veterinarian medicine

  • Practice treating & caring for real animals
  • Be trained to give clinical exams, basic behavior training techniques, vet hospital procedures, anatomy of animal and much more!
  • Floriculture/Florist work

    Discovery the basics of flower arranging while creating floral arrangements for our floral business.

    Greenhouse Management

  • Spend time in the greenhouse discovering how to grow plants, practice hydroponics (growing plants in water) and much more.
  • Grow professional grade hanging baskets, design container gardens and learn how to grow your own food.
  • Animal Nutrition

  • Learn to balance animal rations
  • Learn the important nutrients necessary in maintaining animal health
  • Manage a business

  • Learn business and management skills through internships, fundraisers and our floral business
  • Create your own business, sell and market your product through business sales and marketing plans.
  • Working outdoors

    Spend time on our land lab learning how to plant a crop, manage soil, and even learn how to drive the tractor.

    All second year students will complete a Career and Technical Education Portfolio that exhibits necessary elements for CTE Endorsement and demonstrates competencies in Plant, Animal & Life Sciences.
