Alumni Testimonials
"There are many things that the New Visions Legal Professions program taught me that Auburn High could not have my senior year. The New Visions Legal Professions program also helped me prepare for college. I know high schools offer AP courses, but I have seen AP course work and I believe that I had received more out of New Visions than I would have from high school." - D. Evans, Auburn H.S.
"New Visions was the best program I have ever been a part of. I have never learned so much from a teacher, as I did in New Visions. Taking this program my senior year was by far the best decision of my high school career." - M. Blake, Skaneateles H.S.
"I would like to say that the New Visions Program helped my transition from high school to college tremendously. I was more prepared and equipped for what college handed to me and I could tell that I was more prepared than many of my classmates." - C. Pinckney, Union Springs H.S.
"I had a HUGE jump-start for college, especially when it came to writing. How many 17 year olds have actually talked to and helped real clients, talked to actual lawyers and judges, and most importantly being held accountable for those peoples cases, AKA there lives and futures. I also did two intern ships with police departments. Those experiences are something I could have never experienced in a classroom." - L. Young, Southern Cayuga H.S.
"The opportunity to participate in the New Visions Legal Professions program has proven to be one of the most rewarding and beneficial experiences of my academic career. This program alone better prepared me and further enabled to me perform well in school that any class or program prior. My third year at Syracuse University, and they are still teaching students research and writing skills that I learned in the Legal Professions Program – four years ago!" - J. Cramer, Auburn H.S.
"I sincerely feel that The New Visions Legal program is the best thing that happened to me. I learned more that year about the criminal just field that I have in some of my college coures now. If I had the opportunity to go back and do it all over again, I would not have changed a thing." - C. Flanigan, Union Springs H.S.
"I have found that as a freshman in college my classes have been easier, I know where to go when I need to find sources be it the library or someone I worked with last year on a professional level. Looking back I am so glad that I decided to spend my senior year in the New Visions Program Legal Program not only because of everything you learn and the connections you make, but because of the experiences you have that will guide you in your future." - S. Black, Weedsport H.S.
"The experiences you have in New Visions are unlike any other that you will be able to have in a 'normal' high school setting. It is one of the best decisions I have made to date and it has made my college experience better because it taught me how to talk to people, talk in front of people, and how to manage my time properly." - L. Colandro, Auburn H.S.
"New Visions Legal Professions gave me an authentic dose of College 101. I was challenged academically and personally as I never had been before. While the bottom line in most public education is grading, NVLP values critical thinking and application." - H. Terry, Tyburn Academy
"My first semester in college was extremely easy; by my second semester, eight of my friends had dropped out. I am still going to school, and I credit this solely to the New Visions Legal program. I am doing so well in english that several of my friends ask me to correct their papers for them!" - B. Cutten, Skaneateles H.S.
>"New Visions was the best thing that I could have done my senior year of high school. I learned more in that year than I did my freshman through junior year. It is a program where you not only learn so much about your classmates, you learn so much about yourself." - S. Jakaub, Auburn H.S.
"I see people around me having difficulties with things that I deem as automatic. I know that if I didn’t go to New Visions that I would be just the same as these people. In my senior year of high school, I thought that I would miss out on my friends. As I found my real friends were still there, and I met many new people at New Visions." - B. Lord, Moravia H.S.
"While I was in New Visions I got hands on training, which is the best way I learn. Many things that we did in the program I still have on my resume, such as representing clients with the Assigned Counsel program, job shadowing at the local police and sheriff departments, and doing a mock crime scene investigation. Aside from the learning experiences, I received 9 college credits which have helped me to graduate a whole year early." - E. Hoskins, Union Springs H.S.
"Not only was New Visions Legal my most enjoyable year of high school, it offered me an academic experience not available inside any regular classroom. The college material we covered my senior year is still benefiting me to this day. While I watched my fellow freshman struggle to adapt to the college workload, I was able to make Dean’s list both of my first semesters." - C. Graber, Auburn H.S.
"The New Visions Legal Professions program helped me in many ways. It helped by introducing me to college and exposing me to a college workload. I went straight from high school into all of the sudden having the responsibility of a college student, with the support of high school." - C. Purcell, Weedsport H.S.
"Honestly, I learned and matured more in that one year than I did than the three previous years of high school. I can clearly remember my interview with a Lynchburg College admissions advisor when I mentioned the program; her eyes lit up and she was overly impressed with such a program." - A. Clary, Auburn H.S.
"The New Visions program has taught me more about college and the "real world" than any of the high school classes I took. The way the classes were taught helped my transition from high school to college." - A. Edwards, Skaneateles H.S.
"Many colleges recognized that I chose a difficult program for my senior year, and looked highly towards that decision. When I visited colleges during senior year, I often interviewed with the admissions and was told by the colleges that New Visions was a great choice for my senior year." - K. Nolan, Auburn H.S.
"The program not only focuses on academics, but also on having better moral values (i.e. being responsible for your actions). By the time the course ended, I felt more confident in the classroom than ever." - D. Palmer, Union Springs
"While many freshmen in my college classes were struggling, I was able to maintain a 4.0 GPA. I accredit some of that success to the preparation given to me by New Visions Legal Professions. If you want to mature while gaining a real-world experience in legal professions, then New Visions Legal Professions is where you should apply." - J. Blauvelt, Auburn H.S.
"Let's face facts, once you have argued a case for a client in front of an Assistant District Attorney and a Judge before the age of 18, you can pretty much do anything." - M. Ide, Southern Cayuga
Parent Testimonials
"My name is Jack W. Burns. My wife is Mary Burns and is employed by Southern Cayuga Central School, and is a partner in our business.
Our youngest son, Cody Burns, always seemed to just "get by" throughout most of his school career. As hard as we tried to convince him that his future was at stake, it was tough to get through. And we knew he could do better!
Cody always knew where he wanted to be in life, that part was easy, we just didn't know how to get him there. With Cody providing all the initiative, he was granted an interview with Al Pola, the instructor of the New Visions Criminal Justice/Legal program. After the interview, a brief essay and character references, (all part of the learning process we later realized) Cody was accepted into the class.
Attending New Visions as a senior in High School is a bold move for a student. Just when they think the hard part of their High School career is behind them, they are taken out of their comfortable social environment and given an enormous workload! In other words: not being able to enjoy a year of senioritis.
But the benefits are worth the effort. Some of the more obvious benefits are transferable credits from taking college level courses, and Colleges that may consider accepting you as a student, where they may not otherwise.
The less obvious benefits include a child who now sees his direction clearly and is a more driven individual. He also became someone who came home and had discussions with us about something he learned in class. When we talked, you could hear the excitement in his voice! This bears repeating, “my son was excited about his class"! You can't put a price on that!
Today my son Cody is a Criminal Justice major at SUNY Brockport. He is a prominent member of the Men's swim team, and enjoys college life tremendously. I won't go as far as to say traditional school failed my son, but in my opinion if it were not for New Visions Legal and Al Pola, Cody would not be enjoying the success that he is!"
