Weedsport Students Enjoy New Makerspace

After learning about simple machines, fourth graders from Weedsport Central Schools recently stopped by the makerspace at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES for some hands-on activities.
With the sound of 3D printers running in the background, the students broke into groups and worked together to complete several projects, including assembling mini catapults with tools created by the printers.
“It was amazing to give these students the opportunity to take all that they had learned and put it into action with some help from the adults,” said Nina Baker, Instructional Technology Integrated Specialist at BOCES. "We really wanted to promote the students coming up with their own ideas and working through them.”
Baker said the activities were a wonderful way for students to work collaboratively to demonstrate all they had learned thought out their simple machines unit.
“Hearing the kids asking if they could stay here forever was honestly the best part of the day. Our whole vision was to bring students to this space and let them create,” said Baker. “To see it come to life right before our eyes makes everything worthwhile.”
