Ice Sculpture Brings Laughs, Talents to CO BOCES

Culinary Arts students at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES recently received a fun-filled lesson in ice sculpting thanks to visitor Stan Kolonko.
Kolonko, who owns The Ice Farm in East Syracuse, has been involved in competitive ice sculpting for years and belongs to the National Ice Carving Association.
During his visit, Kolonko explained the basics of ice sculpting, and noted the importance of safety when utilizing tools such as chainsaws, ice picks, grinders and more.
Kolonko then began sculpting a block of ice right before the students, often purposely spraying his audience ice shavings for some laughs. In the end, Kolonko sculpted an outline of the state of New York in less than 15 minutes.
