Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES to Offer Two New NSC Course Certifications

For the 2018-19 school year, Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES will be offering two new National Safety Council course certifications, to be offered alongside the program’s existing OSHA training course.

Workzone Flagger Training will be provided to students from the Heavy Equipment Repair and Operations, Construction and Building Trades, and Trades Exploration programs, and will teach students how to provide safe passage of traffic through work and/or construction areas. The resulting course certification will enhance the employability of students who complete their coursework and continue on in their careers.

Additionally, BOCES will now offer a Defensive Driving Course for students in the Criminal Justice program. This training has been proven to reduce motor vehicle incident rates and keep people safer on the road. Successful course completion may also yield reductions in insurance costs and points on an individual’s driver’s license, and could even result in outright traffic ticket dismissal for those who complete the course.

Both certification programs will build the training directly into program curriculum where applicable, but students enrolled in other BOCES programs will also be eligible to pursue these certifications (at no cost). BOCES plans to offer these courses outside of school hours as well, inviting the public to complete certifications for a nominal fee.
