IDC Expo and Maker-Faire - May 19, 2018

On May 19, Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES is hosting the inaugural Innovation Design Challenge (IDC) Expo, as well as the Maker-Faire and Robotics Challenge. The event will be held at the BOCES campus.

Co-sponsored by the Technology Teachers Collaborative Community and BOCES, the IDC Expo is a regional competition that tasks students (grades five through 12, from the BOCES nine component districts) with using the design process to solve real-world problems.

The competition will take place in the conference rooms, and each team will be provided with a table there to use as a “home base.” This will be where teams can display their IDC creation for visitors to the expo, but districts are also encouraged to bring along any other student work that they’re particularly proud of and would like to display.

Each expo team will be given five minutes to present their “solution” to the panel of judges, followed by a brief question-and-answer session. There will be a computer, projector, and screen available to any team who wants to incorporate said technology into their presentation.
Here’s the rough itinerary for the IDC Expo:

8-9 a.m. Registration and table set-up
9 a.m.  Presentations begin

When students aren’t actively participating in the expo, they’re invited to participate in Maker-Faire and Robotics Challenge activities, which will allow them to demonstrate their experimentation, exploration, and ingenuity. Maker-Faire challenges are open to the public, so any interested individuals and/or family members of those participating in the expo are welcome to stop in and learn Maker-Faire. The public event begins at 10 a.m. and will be held in the gym.

10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Maker-Faire/Robotics Challenge
12 p.m. Winners announced for instant challenges/robotic challenges

Whether you’re part of the IDC Expo, their family member, or an individual who’s interested in Maker-Faire activities, we hope to see you on the campus come May 19!
