Early Childhood Education Students Visit Strong Museum of Play

It was with this evocation in mind that the Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program sent students from Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES to the Strong Museum of Play, in late March.

For a child, playing is an integral part of both learning and development. It aids in the development of a child's language, communication skills, and problem-solving abilities. For the students visiting the museum, it represented a fun opportunity to learn by doing! ECE students partook in the many interactive exhibits (including the Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden), and broadly experienced the highly interactive and educational programming that the museum had to offer.

More critically, ECE students were afforded the opportunity to observe some of the many different ways that kids play, and witnessed firsthand how different experiences can support physical, cognitive, and social-emotional development. By the end of the trip, students had received invaluable insight on how to appropriately plan developmental lessons for children.
