The Region 11 Odyssey of the Mind Tournament will be held on Mar. 10

The 2018 Regional OotM pin was created by Kennedy Taylor, a fourth-grader from Cato-Meridian Elementary School. Kennedy's design makes Region 11 one of only a few to feature representation that was created by a student.
The Region 11 Odyssey of the Mind Tournament will be held on Saturday, Mar. 10, 2018, at the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES Regional Educational Center. Competition will begin at 8:30 a.m. and will conclude with the Awards Ceremony at 2:30 p.m. The first place teams at the regional tournament will then advance to the New York State tournament, to be held on Apr. 7 at Binghamton University. Any team who places first or second at the State Tournament then earns the right to advance to the World Finals competition.
The Odyssey of the Mind teaches students how to think divergently, by providing open-ended problems that appeal to a wide range of interests. Students learn how to identify challenges, and devise creative solutions for those problems. They are free to express their ideas and suggestions without fear of criticism, and the creative problem-solving process rewards thinking "outside of the box." While conventional thinking will always have a prominent place in a well-rounded education, it is important for students to learn how to think creatively and productively, in order to tackle new challenges as they arise.
