Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES students participate in panel discussion

Recently, juniors from Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES' Criminal Justice program were part of a panel discussion about the dangers of drug addiction. The talk focused on the topic of addiction at large, but also honed in on the current opioid crisis in Cayuga County.

The presentation served to educate parents and kids (middle-school-to-college-aged) about the dangers of drug addiction, while also providing tips on how to avoid becoming victims themselves. As part of this endeavor, the documentary “Chasing the Dragon: The Life of an Opiate Addict” was shown.

The panel discussion followed the viewing of the documentary, and included representatives from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, an addiction specialist, local community members, and an individual who is currently in recovery. Notably, it also included Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES students Kiara Heiler, Kayleigh Tallman, and Melissa Yanez, who participated in the panel and answered questions that pertained to their age group.
