New Visions Students Interview U.S. Veterans

Students from Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES’ New Visions: Medical Professions program recently completed an assignment focusing on the global, political, and personal issues experienced by United States military veterans.

As part of the assignment, each student interviewed a veteran about the essential components of their military service. After gathering as much in-depth information as they could, students then collated that data, turning it into a biography that was presented to each of the 14 veterans that were interviewed.

As a final touch befitting the time of year, students also created personalized holiday cards for the veterans, incorporating their biographies into the card itself and expressing gratitude for their talent, service, and sacrifice.

More immersive than simply reading a textbook, New Visions students who completed the assignment were able to enhance their knowledge of the challenges faced by military men and women during times of service, while fostering new relationships with these veterans along the way.
