Compass Program Hosts Holiday Luncheon


On Dec. 19, 2017, students and staff from Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES’ Compass Program gathered for a holiday luncheon. Opened to parents of the students as well, the luncheon served as an opportunity to foster the feeling of “community” that lends itself so well to the holiday season.

Over 100 attendees chatted, laughed, and reflected on the success of the school year as they ate. Food was provided by Compass Program staff – who each contributed a dish to the event – and included Swedish meatballs, white cheddar pierogies, baked ziti, and more; not to mention a wide assortment of cookies, cream puffs, pies, and other holiday-inspired sweet treats.

For students, it was a time to reflect on both the past and the present. When asked what his favorite project from the school year has been to date, Weedsport seventh-grader Ty said: “a wooden snowflake that we made as part of a project-based learning assignment.”

As for what he was looking most forward to this holiday season? “Getting to spend some time with my family,” said Ty. 

While the holidays can often inspire a sense of community unto themselves, adding food to the equation never hurts. “Whoever made these pierogies deserves a hug,” said Mark Fitzgerald.
