Fourteen students are participating in work-based learning experiences at locations that were handpicked for them, based on their preferences.
Five seniors are interning at Casey Park Elementary School, seven are placed at the Cayuga Community College Child Care Center, one is in the Head Start UPK classroom at Casey Park Elementary, and the final student is interning in the 3PK classroom at BOCES.
“This is the first time in many years that students have held internships in the community,” said Early Childhood Education Instructor Mrs. Casey Stephens.
This is Mrs. Stephens' second year leading the ECE program, and she is passionate about exposing students to a broad range of early childhood experiences to help them be successful.
“This is a practical experience for our students -- they are doing whatever their classroom teacher needs them to do,” said Mrs. Stephens.
The 12-week internships have students in their location twice a week for a total of three hours.
Mrs. Stephens hopes her seniors will be able to do a total of three internships throughout the school year.
“The students are having an amazing experience -- they are so excited to tell me about their internships -- I am thrilled,” said Mrs. Stephens.
