Games, ice cream, and sunshine: Compass Program students earn a Field Day

Compass Program students enjoy a sweet treat during the
last Positive Incentive activity of the 2016-17 school year.
Every student in the Compass Program at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES earned the right to enjoy the last Positive Incentive activity of the school year. On Thursday, May 18, nearly 60 students enjoyed picture-perfect weather during their Field Day at CO BOCES. Some students participated in games such as kickball and flag football, while others simply relaxed on blankets. The sweetest part of the 2-hour event was the arrival of an ice cream truck. Every student was able to order a treat of their choice.

About the Positive Incentive Program
Every school day is a new opportunity for students in the Compass Program to make good decisions and earn points. The school-wide Positive Incentive Program enables faculty to award students with points based on their actions. Teachers and staff use LiveSchool, a web-based app, to record students’ points. Students who earn enough points can participate in special activities, such as the Field Day. Compass Program Principal Drew Yakawiak launched the Positive Incentive Program in 2015-16.

“The goal of the Positive Incentive Program is to inspire students to create a positive community,” said Yakawiak. “Students understand that they need to follow the rules and expectations of the program in order to earn the right to experience these unique opportunities.”
