Compass Program students at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES celebrated National Poetry Month by creating a variety of poetry-themed projects throughout the month of April in Mrs. Brazee’s and Mrs. Ponto’s English classes. Students culminated their month of poetry studies by participating in "Poem In Your Pocket Day" on Thursday, April 27.
During the day-long event, Compass Program students and staff carried short poems and shared them with others. The Compass Program also hosted a "Poem in Your Pocket Day" celebration at the Regional Education Center. During the event, students had the opportunity to share their projects, which included poet studies, student-written poetry, found poetry based on literature studied in class, and themed poetry displays. The celebration featured three poetry creation stations, where participants could explore found poetry, magnetic poetry, and paint-chip poetry. Staff and students were encouraged to share the poems they created by placing them on display.
Kudos to all of the participants!
