2017 Regional Odyssey of the Mind Tournament takes place Saturday, March 11 at CO BOCES

The 2017 Regional Odyssey of the Mind Tournament takes place this Saturday, March 11 at the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES Regional Education Center (CO BOCES). Thirty-one teams from six school districts will participate in the 35th annual tournament. Teams typically consist of seven members ranging from third- to 12th-grade. The following districts will be represented on Saturday:  Auburn, Cato-Meridian, Moravia, Skaneateles, Southern Cayuga, and Weedsport.

This is the seventh year that CO BOCES team member Debbie Daloia has coordinated the Regional Odyssey of the Mind Tournament, and she is excited to watch the students in action.

“I love to see the innovative ideas that the kids come up with,” said Daloia. “Their enthusiasm is contagious, and the building will be buzzing with an electric energy all day.”

The tournament takes places from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., and the community is encouraged to attend.

Teams that place first on Saturday will earn a spot in the New York State Odyssey of the Mind Tournament at Binghamton University on April 8, 2017.

Teams that earn first or second place in the state tournament will compete in the World Finals at Michigan State University in May.

“For more than 20 years, we’ve had at least one team from Region 11 participate in the World Finals,” said Daloia.

Good luck to all of the teams and coaches!

Congratulations to Samantha Johnson, a sixth-grader at Southern Elementary Cayuga School. Samantha created the winning pin design for the Region 11 Odyssey of the Mind Tournament. The pin will be featured on the cover of the 2017 Regional Tournament program. The annual pin design contest is open to all students in CO BOCES' component school districts.
