Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES to host community conversation regarding the Every Student Succeeds Act: Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES invites its stakeholders to attend an ESSA Regional State Plan Development meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2016 to discuss the  Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) , which was signed into law by President Obama on Dec. 10, 2015. The two-hour meeting will begin at 3:30 p.m and be held at Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES, 1879 W. Genesee Street Rd., Auburn. CTE students secure top honors at SUNY Cobleskill's Ag High School Day: Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES' Career & Technical Education (CTE) students did very well at SUNY Cobleskill's recent Ag High School Day. The annual event, organized by the college's School of Agriculture & Natural Resources,  took place Friday, Sept. 30. Crossing the finish line: Compass Program's middle school students participate in pinewood derby: Oct. 5, 2016: Seventh- and eighth-grade students in Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES’ Compass Program experienced the satisfaction of hands-on learning during a recent two-day pinewood derby. Middle school students worked on the design and production of their cars since the start of the 2016-17 school year. Over the past month, students transformed blocks of wood into sleek, pinewood derby cars. “The derby is a great example of the power of project-based learning,” said Compass Program Principal Mr. Drew Yakawiak. “Our teachers weaved math, science, social students, and ELA into the production of the cars. Compass Program’s Positive Incentive Program motivates, inspires, and rewards students: Every school day is a new opportunity for students in Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES’ (CO BOCES) Compass Program to make good decisions and earn points. The school-wide Positive Incentive Program enables faculty to award students with points based on their actions. Teachers and staff use LiveSchool, a web-based app, to record students’ points. Students who earn enough points can participate in special activities, ranging from ice skating and kickball to VIP movie screenings and trips to museums and restaurants. Setting the stage for success: (Sept. 8, 2016) - Nearly 600 students experienced Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES Orientation today, conducted by Director of CTE, Adult, & Alternative Education Mr. Steve Woodard. High School seniors attended a morning orientation, while juniors participated in an afternoon session. "The purpose of orientation is to clearly define our expectations for the school year," said Mr. Woodard. "We understand that our students are coming from districts that may have different rules than Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES. Reviewing our standards for students ensures everyone is on the same page and prepared for success." CO BOCES begins 2016-2017 school year with welcome back event: (Sept. 1, 2016) Nearly 400 Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES (CO BOCES) faculty and staff gathered this morning for a ‘Welcome Back Breakfast’ to kick off the 2016-2017 school year. “This is the only day of the year that our entire team is together, so it’s a great opportunity to inspire, interact, and set the stage for a successful year,” said District Superintendent Denise Dzikowski.
