Description:
The SPIRIT Program is a 20 week intervention for elementary students who have demonstrated a pattern of behaviors in the classroom which adversely affect learning. Students will acquire skills to assist them to improve their ability to cope with frustration, manage their behaviors and build self-esteem. These skills will facilitate an eager learner who will be able to successfully achieve in the classroom.
The SPIRIT program is a collaboration between the student, parent, the home school and the alternative education staff. Parents are offered strategies and support that will improve their ability to encourage the academic success of their child. Parents and the home school staff are invited to participate in classroom events and celebrations to strengthen the home school connections. Regularly scheduled “trans-disciplinary” meetings are aimed to keep all stakeholders informed as to the progress of the child and to maintain the home school connection. Continued assessment of the child’s behavioral, social and academic performance is aimed to identify and enhance the child’s strengths.
