Frequently Asked Questions

If I participate in New Visions, will I lose my connection to my friends and activities at my home school?

NO! Typically, New Visions students continue being active participants in sports, student government, and various school organizations. Some even have part-time jobs. Your ability to participate in anything after school is only limited by your time management skills.

What are the class hours and where will I be if I’m accepted?

New Visions programs meet Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at their respective off-campus locations. Check each program’s link for more specific information.

How much does it cost?

Each program has a total of nine (9) college credits, three (3) courses each, offered through an agreement with Cayuga Community College and SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. The total cost for most New Visions programs are $315 total; New Visions Environmental’s total cost is $435.

Breakdowns for when tuition payments are due will be provided at each program’s summer orientation.

Will my college credits transfer?

The credits you may earn in New Visions are transferable throughout the SUNY system. Many private colleges take the credits as well; however, you should work with that college early in the application process so that they have a clear understanding of the challenge you have chosen for your senior year. We will work with you, but doing this early is the key.

If this is true, where have past graduates gone to college?

It’s impossible to list all of the colleges they’ve gone to. But here is a short list of places, both public and private, that we know have accepted New Visions credits:

  • Community colleges
  • SUNY (all schools, like Buffalo, Cortland, Geneseo, Oswego, etc.)
  • Alfred University
  • Hobart/William Smith
  • LeMoyne
  • University of New Hampshire
  • Niagara University
  • University of North Carolina
  • Northeastern University
  • St. John Fischer
  • Syracuse University

If I’m accepted, how do I get to the New Visions classroom?

The New Visions program will require students to participate in a wide variety of field site training rotations, job shadows and internships. It is preferred that students furnish their own transportation while participating in the program. Please work closely with your component school district if personal transportation cannot be arranged.
